Every rudraksha is a seed of the same tree, and the differences between them occur in nature. They all share one base property: a gentle effect on the mind and the nervous system. The main distinction is the number of faces, called mukhi in Sanskrit. The faces are the lines running down the bead that divide it into segments, and inside, the bead holds as many seed chambers as it has lines on the outside — that is what defines its type. Each type of bead carries its own particular kind of vibration.

Human consciousness has many facets, and they can be separated into distinct areas: emotionality, empathy, concentration, balance, cheerfulness, the ability to learn, desire and others. In astrology these areas are tied to the positions of particular planets, and each type of rudraksha is likewise linked to a planet. By drawing up a natal chart and understanding where the inner imbalance lies, it becomes possible to choose the type of bead that will harmonise and support the more vulnerable areas of the psyche.

Choosing a rudraksha calls for the date, time and place of birth. They are needed to build the astrological chart of the sky at the moment you were born and to see where the planets stood. Each planet answers for its own part of a person's character and life. The birth chart shows which planetary positions are vulnerable in the horoscope, and we choose the rudraksha for that particular planet, in order to support or harmonise it. The exact time matters because the chart shifts every couple of hours, and without it the selection will not be accurate.

In different circumstances our brain emits different electromagnetic impulses, and they travel through the whole body. A rudraksha carries a steady, balanced electromagnetic impulse of its own. In constant contact with a person the two synchronise — in the early stages that can feel unfamiliar, though it is different for everyone.
